Fraser's Hill -things to do !

Some facts about Fraser’s Hill, past and present;

Fraser’s Hill resort is situated on seven hills. The natural terrain together with the subsequent enhancement have earned the area a reputation as being the best destination for jungle trekking, bird watching, and have also proven that there are many potential sites to view the Malaysian fauna and floras.

It peaks at 1,524 meters and is named after British adventurer Louis James Fraser who operated a mule station to service the mining trade.

The resort was actually founded by Bishop Ferguson-Davie who in the midst of locating the missing Fraser saw the potential of the place as a retreat in1910. Development work commenced in 1919 and until today has converted the place into an environment reminiscence of the rustic solitude of English countryside.

The spirit of its founder holds true.

The scene that greets the eye, the cool climate and the  rural settings complete all the ingredients for a nice quiet stay

The giant fern plants, tells you that the weather is cool and you are high up in the mountain.

This is the place meant for holding a good book to assist in absorbing the ambience. A nice morning walk to remind you of where you are.

Those are hooked on golf, have the perfect excuse not to be with the family for a while. Another good reason for making the trip. The course apart from the ambience has nothing to speak off. There is another course further up to cater for your afternoon's session.

For many of us, who cannot seat still and do not read that much, we must capitalize on the environment. Go trekking.

It is the cool weather that makes the walking rewarding. Here is Khoo and Vincent exploring the trails. By the way, there were so trails and at certain times of the year, infested with leeches. that should not deter you.

 Talking about birds! A subject very close to my heart. Here is George and the girls, peeping into the trees. And, you have heard of the Fraser's Hills Bird Race!

 What is a Bird Race?. Then I borrow this passage prepared by the Fraser's Hill Development Board.

"A popular misconception is that this event has birds racing against each other! Actually, a Bird Race is a "fun race" where teams of three birdwatchers compete against one another in sightings. identifying and recording as many different species of birds [not number of birds] within the stipulated time and location.

 This is the center where the ceremony was held in 2004.

The highest number of birds species spotted in that time of 12.00 noon Saturday to 2.00 pm on Sunday was around 70 species.

Try and see what kind of numbers can you come up with?

You have seen samples of activities that can be undertaken. For my friends, they will bring their favorites fishes, sea-food stuff and their mahjong sets. To each his own! What ever you do, please help to keep the peace and tranquility!
