Pangkor Island

Sight Seeing on the Island

Sight seeing in Pangkor is matter of interest and opinion.

Most visitor merely seek to satisfied their curiosity as to what would be available on the island. There are of course nice views of beaches, islands and hills. Views would be rated as nice if left untouched and uncontaminated by the presence of crowd. Surprisingly after having said all that, I will show you some views shots as well as many spots with crowds.

Most who come have made up their mind to absorb the tranquility of the beach. That is what this island can do best. Still, for those wanting to know more about touristy sites! Here are the choices to meet your needs!

The island strategically located did had some historical significance. The best and most authentic historical site on the island was the Kota Belanda or the Dutch Fort.

Originally built in 1670 for dual purposes, to keep the tin supplies from Perak and maintain a check on piracy in the Straits. It was destroyed in 1690 when the locals became discontented with the Dutch.

The Fort was rebuilt in 1743 only to be used for another 5 years. Unable to withstand the constant onslaught from local Malays, the fort was finally left in ruins until now.

Beside this fort, somewhere down the road, look out for a boulder, almost immersed in modern days graffiti, was suppose to be engrave with some images of a historical scene.

This is one sight that i would consider worth visiting.

Somehwere out in the rocky west coast, partially hidden by the forest of the cape, was this cluster of boulders.

The seas around the Island is not only clear but also scenic.

Little known to most causal visitor, you can reach it from the bay at Teluk Nipah.

The local advertising industry had selected a few scenes from here.

Look carefully, it does project a remote destination with unspoilt environment

The locals made up of seafaring fisherman had lots of believe. There were 2 notable temples and of course many more shrines. The uniqueness here was that adorning the temple's compound would be figures and republic. Not of mythical figures but of actual scenes.

On the contrary, the locals would rate this miniature replica as a "must see" destinations. There were some cages for wild life that were freed by devotees of the Buddhist faith!
Again another practice of ensuring the presence of life, carps & tilapias fishes were kept in this pond

For me as a causal photographer, I would prefer other better places - my taste would be those featuring local lifestyles and scenes featuring the whole fishing industry. Well, to each his own!
