Pangkor Island Towns around the Island |
The largest congregation of activities is around Sungei Pinang Kechil and not Pangkor town. Picture show settlement at the northern cape. Without defining the size of population to qualify a township, in Pangkor Island there are 3 distinct townships and 4 settlement areas. These small settlements here are referred as villages in local language "Kampong". With the exception of Kampong Teluk Nipah that is located on the west coast, 6 of them were on the island's eastern side facing the calmer waters of the channel.
A rare opportunity to come across a township with plenty of wooden
structures. That is the style of the past, though they are still were a fire hazard.
If you watch
carefully, you could see the road sign indicating a winding stretch.
This signage posted along the one and only thoroughfare would the Ring Road winding round around the island.
Sheltered parking provided by the Ferry Company to customers with while they are away on the mainland Sungei Pinang Besar is a residential area as well as maintenance depot for the fishing fleets. Though small, it is a self sufficient township. For example, you may spot an unusual looking Fuel Dispensing Station serving motor bike users with small purchases.
In Pangkor town, unlike building design of the 2 Sungei Pinangs, the structures here of contemporary designs of the mainland and the road has less gradient. Off course the souvenirs shops are here too! |
