Legendary lake - Tasek Chini |
To me a truly exploratory trip should incorporate elements of nostalgia. We are constantly been bombarded by more concrete, each passing days. Even on a get away escapade to Chini, the concrete dams has to be there. Bring back the good old peaceful and quiet moments. Those times devoid of stress. Most time we cannot turn back the clock, but we could choose a trail with elements to refresh us as to the sweet memories. First and original way is to go to Kampong Belimbing. One of the settlements along the Pahang River. Located along Highway 2, Kuantan- Kuala Lumpur Highway between the towns of Gambang and SriJaya. There river boats will ferry you across the river to the next Tasek Chini Boat tour operators. Now the Visitor Center as shown on the 1st picture. Next is by land route using the Segamat-Kuantan Highway 12. After crossing the bridge over the Pahang River, turn right and use this country road 82 that meanders with the river. After a distance around 30 kilometers, there is junction that prompt you to decide - [a] reaching for the Visitor Center and then approach Tasek Chini by boat or [b] get to the Resort on Chini by your own transport. Both destinations are equidistance. Option [a] will take you here.
Don't be surprised that the buildings is sort of mismatch for the environment. This board is there [hopefully the 2001 prices]
The old pier for boarding, the condition when this picture was taken in February 2001.
Option [b] the vehicle following the road will take you straight to the lake and the private resort. No picture of that exquisite kampong style wooden structures. About 1 kilometer before reaching the resort, the road forks off to the left, a recreation area.
Here at Tasek Chini, more signboards offering choices. So plan for your trip and come better prepared.
Get it from the horses' mouth as to what you can plan to accomplish. See the sign board.
A relaxing place to spin a yarn and read a book. This is the campsites, open by the lake and under canopy of trees. Back at the resort, a plaque here details the legend of the Lake is few languages.
At the jetty, these sketches provide you with an impression of your whereabout in relation to the whole vicinity. Do not expect to see breath taking scenery from this wilderness. Nor this vast expenses of water being a haven for outdoor fisherman. There is none, as the lake is situated in a flat land and over the years, due to lack of control, livestock of fishes in the lake was slowly depleted. Having said that, the lake district is indeed a beautiful place to spend some quiet time together with nature. there are still many interesting plants and unusual scenes. |
