Endau -Rompin National Park

Khong's pictorial guide

Page 1 - The condition of the road leading to the Park.

Most visitors to the Park need not concern them selves with the pictures on this page. The arrangement would be, you booked your stay, find your way to Kahang town. At the eastern edge of town, there will be a "Shell" petrol station. You will be picked up by the transport organized by the park to drive you in.

Pictures here are intended for those planning to make a visit . Having in mind of driving their own vehicles into the Park. The ride takes about an hour or more. Fairly smooth with little bumps. Most of the stretches are hard surfaced laterite with several portion in cement and tarred. Some rattling when the vehicle is moving fast. All the way to the Visitors Center there are regular passenger car traffic. People in the next door village of Kampong Peta commute with their personal car. For us only one stretch of 100 meters, we experienced some aquaplaning. That was because  this level stretch was coated with a layer of fine silt brought down by the rain. Happy Motoring.

Picture #1  Signage on the Main Trunk Road - Kluang-Mersing. Distance denoted!

Picture #2  The people who need this road and responsible in keeping them in navigable condition for their livelihood.

Picture #3  Another picture of the signage at the same spot. This time the need to show the active economic activities of the hinterland.

Picture #4  The road level and smooth. But watch the fine red powder that was churned up each time a vehicles passed. Likewise coating your vehicle as well.

Picture #5  The dust generating process. Meaning - you have to keep your road speed to that of below 70 km/hr.

The first series of pictures of the left show you the condition of the road. Then those below here are some scenes you would encounter.

Right at the very bottom are a couple of large picture of more scenes.

Picture #6 Along the way, there sufficient board to keep informed of your progress.

Picture #7  28 kilometers before the Visitors Center, you will reach the Park's perimeter. Here is the notice of the electrified fencing. To keep the domesticated cattle of the estates from entering the park area.

Picture #8  Enlarged picture of that warning.

Picture #9  One of the 2 rivers you would pass along the way. Though this one is within the park compound - watch carefully. At the river bend here the water level is tend deepest, evidence of the local doing some fishing here.

Picture #10  Again another view of the reed track. This time it within the park area. Watch the forest that borders the track, no deposit of red dust.

Picture #11  This scene you see here, happens to be my favorite benchmark spot. Back in 1995, the broken bridge that you now see was not in existence. Instead, a bridge made up of logs was in place. In my second visit in 1997, that broken bridge was installed as a new bridge. Today, it is left rotting and a newer bridge nearer the spot of the bridge of log is in place.

I hope wit some glimpses of the track leading to the park, it was more guide than I have got when I first started visiting the Park.
