Tasek Bera is one of the two major natural water bodies of freshwater in Peninsula Malaysia.. It supports a biological community which is unique within the country and probably the only place on earth!

The lake has a high ecological diversity and home to many endangered and endemic species of plants and animals. Therefore can be considered as of great importance as a gene pool besides being of interest from a scientific, recreational, educational and economic point of view.

Malaysia's first Ramsar site, the lake together with its associated marshes and interspersed with extensive areas of reeds, freshwater and peat swamp forests, encompass an area estimated at 6,150ha. Water from a catchment's area of 61,383ha feed this swamp.
